A lot of the city stuff is kind of fluff.there's definitely some elements that are far more worthwhile than others in terms of besting the game.but extra options in a game like this is good. The City Building feature has been expanded and is quite fun, with a lot of neat stuff to build and develop, and finding new Digimon Recruits is still exciting.feels like they're a bit more gated off by story progress than the original though which is a bit disappointing, but you have a decent amount of freedom. Otherwise, Next Order has a lot to like even if it looses some of the originals charming difficulty. Eventually battles become kind of a chore, but the rewards are far better in this game so there's no longer an incentive to carefully avoid fights. You can see what Digimon are ranked compared to yours before a fight, and generally Red Title Digimon will best you, while you typically can handle Blue Title Digimon. I don't think battling is really like the main draw of Digimon World, it's more about preparing for battle, but unlike in the original Digimon World there's not that uncertain thrill when you get into a battle. You have more control than in World, but it's mostly just hitting a button when your Digimon hits an attack to raise their Order Power so you can tell them to use a super move. Next Order battles are also kind of lame. I still think the training loop in Next Order is addicting, and fun early on, but I do recall in my initial playthrough feeling Digimon lived too long, and wanting them to die lol so I could try out a new Digimon. In Next Order, you can unlock an option to have Digimon inherit stats early on, and even without that I think they automatically do inherit some percentage each cycle of life.so while in World every cycle felt like its own challenge and race against the clock, in Next Order eventually raising Digimon becomes almost a bit dull because you don't have to worry about death as lifespans get longer, and so training becomes a bit tedious as you're constantly watching numbers go up and up and not in an organic way. A bit too much? In World, there were ways to increase your Digimon's inheritance of previous stats upon death, but doing so is rather difficult and obtuse. Next Order starts that way, the first few hours have that same "oh god my meat supply isn't lasting I gotta get some recruits" and your Digimon doesn't amount to much, but Next Order picks up momentum. Especially early on this is vital to getting key recruits. You pretty much want to learn enemy Digimon movement patterns and avoid running into them. See, battling wild Digimon in that game is typically unadvisable.even weak Digimon can get the upper hand, the battle system is finicky, and the rewards for battling aren't worth it generally. I also consider Digimon World secretly a stealth game. It felt like every new cycle was a race to see what you could get done, and it's kind of thrilling. One of the pros of Digimon World in my opinion was how it tasked you to plan.basically the gameplay loop was figure out what Digimon Recruit you wanted to get, raise a Digimon up to that task, and then get there before the Digimon died. Next Order streamlines and makes visible a lot of the weirder systems from World, and I see why they did this and think it was the right decision, but in some ways a few things irk me. Very obtuse and difficult for newcomers, and pretty demanding all around. Probably won't try to collect all the Digimon.Īnyway, the original Digimon World in my opinion is a super unique game that can't be touched.in good and bad ways. I played it on release and beat the main game after about 50 hours, but this time I really wanna totally complete it.atleast in terms of recruiting all the Digimon and beating all the bosses. I'd also like to try out Re:Digitize but, yknow, us English fans got cheated out of that.īut Next Order is available so I jumped back into that. I'd like to revisit the original, but unfortunately my dream of an official remaster has yet to come true. So, I decided in waiting for Survive (which I'm worried isn't gonna be all that good lol) to revisit Digimon World. I've been on a Digimon kick lately, enjoying Ghost Game and collecting the awesome new TCG.
